Last Mountain Marathons in 2020

Today Ourea Events confirmed that 2020 will be the final year they organise Marmot Dark Mountains™, the Scottish Mountain Marathon™, and the ROC Mountain Marathon™.

Race Director Shane Ohly said, “Throughout 2019 I did a great deal of soul searching about the future of our three Mountain Marathon events. I have concluded that Ourea Events cannot continue to organise these events from 2021. This is because we are reorienting the business ready to organise our expedition races, the Cape Wrath Ultra® and the Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race® annually from 2021”. Ohly Continued, “These two expedition races are highly complex events and require our full attention. We simply cannot resource these two races and the three Mountain Marathon events in the same year without risking a drop in quality”.

Ourea Events confirmed that they will continue to organise both the Scottish Mountain Marathon™ and the ROC Mountain Marathon™ in 2020 with full commitment. They will maintain the excellent standards these mountain running events have shown over the years.

The final edition of the other Mountain Marathon event, Marmot Dark Mountains™, already took place in January 2020.

Ourea Events are keenly looking for an individual, team or organisation that might be willing to take on these fantastic events. They sincerely hope that these three Mountain Marathon events will continue into 2021 and beyond as they are very aware of how much enjoyment they bring to the mountain running community.

Ohly added, “It is essential to me that any future owner really loves, appreciates and understands Mountain Marathons, and if you think that is you, and you are willing to take on one or more of these events, please don’t hesitate to get in touch”.

From 2021, Ourea Events confirm that they will be focusing on the SILVA Great Lakeland 3Day™, Salomon Skyline Scotland®, the Dragon’s Back Race® and the Cape Wrath Ultra®, which will all run on an annual basis.
