Ourea Events announces recipients of their 2018 One Percent For The Plant donations

The John Muir Trust, Fix the Fells and Woodland Trust have all received donations from Ourea Events as part of their 2018 annual 1% For The Planet contribution.

Alison Austin, Nevis Property Manager, The John Muir Trust, says: “We welcome Ourea events' approach to defining their route and considering the impacts of their route choice on fragile habitats in the uplands. Their commitment to contributing financially to John Muir Trust allows us to continue maintaining paths and improving acces to wild land which will enable many people to experience these wonderful places from elite athletes to families with young children who may be inspired to become skyline runners themselves in the future.”

Shane Ohly, Director of Ourea Events, explains the importance of these donations: “Ourea Events has now been a member of 1% For The Planet since 2012 when the company was started. I strongly believe that part of being a responsible and forward thinking business, is to account for the impact we have on the planet. Whilst recycling, public transport and low energy lightbulbs all have a part to play, sometimes a cash donation makes a real difference. I understand our contribution to the excellent work of these organisations is just a drop in the water, but I hope our example will encourage other users of the fantastic outdoor environments to contribute to their upkeep.” 

1% for the Planet is a global organization, started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. Members have given more than $150 million to environmental non-profits to date. Today, 1% for the Planet is a network of more than 1,200 member businesses, numerous individuals, and thousands of non-profit partners in more than 40 countries.
