Response to Covid-19 - cancelled events

Dear Fellow Runners,

This week we have had to make some very difficult decisions and cancel the SILVA Great Lakeland 3Day, the Cape Wrath Ultra, and the Scottish Mountain Marathon that were all due to take place in May and June 2020.

In light of the current Covid-19 situation and in line with government advice to, “stop non-essential contact with others and non-essential travel, start working from home and avoid social venues”, we feel we have had no other choice but to cancel these events. We would like to thank our valued community of participants and event volunteers for their support so far.

This is a very challenging time for many people, and the events industry among many others is going to be massively impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak.

Ourea Events continue to carefully monitor the Covid-19 situation and we are mindful of the fact that the situation is rapidly evolving. It’s important to highlight that the health and well-being of our staff, our volunteers, our participants and host communities is a primary concern. As such, our response to this virus will be guided by advice from the UK Government, especially Health Protection Scotland and Public Health England.

We have already been in touch with all affected participants about their options for moving forward. If any of our participants would like to discuss their entry into one of the cancelled events mentioned above, then we would ask them to get in touch. As the situation progresses, we promise to be in touch with our participants about further updates.

On a personal note, I would ask that, during this difficult period, our customers recognise that we have a team of eight permanent employees who work year-round to ensure that we are able to organise highly professional events and a large network of freelance staff who we employ throughout the year. In our response to Covid-19, we are looking to strike the balance between treating our participants fairly and planning long term in order to ensure that we will be able to continue organising our much loved and highly respected events for years to come.
