Why work with Ourea Events?

I have been involved with Ourea Events in a few different roles for nine years. I have seen the events grow, starting from a high benchmark, driven by Shane and the full team to include world-class international, multi-day races. I keep coming back due to the professionalism, hard work and dedication of all involved with Ourea Events. It's sometimes clichéd, but I believe this is a definite feel-good family to be involved with who hold their standards and ethics in high regard.

What paid roles are available?

This list serves only as an example of event staff roles available across all four of our events; not all will be applicable to all events.

Catering (must have catering experience – we recruit the full range of professionals from chefs to kitchen porters)

Mountain safety (professional outdoor instructors assisting with climbing/scrambling safety and manning remote checkpoints – must be qualified. Please note this role is only applicable to the Dragon's Back Race®, generally using staff based in Snowdonia, and Salomon Skyline Scotland®, generally using staff based in Fort William area, and Scotland. Applicants should have their own insurance)

Media (bloggers, journalists, photographers and film-makers with a significant portfolio of experience working in austere environments. Please note, these roles don't become available often but we are always keen to extend our network of media contacts)

Marquee team (erecting and dismantling our large temporary structures like marquees and other site infrastructure, physically demanding work)

Response team (providing an emergency response capability – must be a current Mountain Rescue team member with at least 2 years experience, and up to date CasCare Certification, or better)

Tip

Some roles are filled by both volunteers and paid staff. Additionally, catering staff can choose to be either renumerated as a regular paid staff member or receive event credit (as this may be more valuable to them).

What else do I need to know?

The majority of the event team are volunteers. However, event staff roles are paid due to the nature of the work involved. The criteria we have for these paid roles are:

  1. That there are no volunteers willing to take on the role

  2. That it would be inappropriate to ask a volunteer to take on the role

  3. That the person taking on the paid role has relevant professional qualifications for the role they are undertaking

Tip

It is often harder to get a place on the event team than it is to get an entry into our races, so please apply early if you would like to help.
